Meet Our President – Jo Ann Sowards

As a former hospital consultant, Jo Ann shares she is hopeful in her new role as President, to combine both her administrative and leadership skills as an opportunity for identifying new ways to grow and enhance our club.  Whether it be charitable needs or new ideas to strengthen our current membership, these are the current challenges.

Jo Ann is a strong believer that when God closes one door, He opens another.  She knows well that her experience in hospital administration, as a previous partner of a local boutique/design store, and now as a realtor, it gives her a unique perspective in the “ups and downs” of business and life.

As a partner in a boutique store, she recalls being asked over twenty years ago to decorate a tree for the annual Festival of Trees event held each November.  This was her first introduction to the club’s biggest fundraiser and from that point forward, she was forever changed.  Giving back to our local community pulled on her heart strings.  In fact, her theme this year is “Neighbors Helping Neighbors”.

Unfortunately, her beloved boutique suffered a traumatic fire allowing Jo Ann to re-evaluate and pursue a long-time interest in real estate.  This change, she recalls, freed up more time to also volunteer; combining her love for decorating and volunteering by giving back to this great city we all love.

Jo Ann has dedicated her time as the Chair of the Festival of Trees for several years, served on the Board of the Miss Placentia/Yorba Linda Organization, the Board of the Chamber of Commerce, and President of the Placentia Friends of the Library Board.   She believes life is an ongoing journey that provides endless opportunities and challenges.  Her mantra in life and business, along with her late husband, who served our city as Mayor, we are the city. Let’s make it a pleasant place to live.
